GOOSE MONITOR

Real-Time GOOSE Monitoring for Reliable Substation Automation

SISCO’s GOOSE Monitor is an essential troubleshooting tool for substation automation and protection systems that use IEC 61850 GOOSE messaging. The monitor provides an intuitive visualization of the state of the GOOSE messaging to identify problems and enable the substation engineer to focus on them directly.

IEC 61850 GOOSE is a high-speed multicast messaging system widely used for protection coordination in and between substations. Operational substations using GOOSE can exchange thousands of messages per second between hundreds of devices. It is very difficult to determine if the protection messaging is working properly using traditional network monitoring tools or network packet sniffers.

The GOOSE Monitor captures the publication and subscription status for all GOOSE messaging and shows it in a real-time display. This allows the substation engineer to see at a glance if there are any problems and where the source of that problem might be.

Features

  • Easy and flexible configuration automatically configures visualization and communications in a single step

  • Subscription visualization information is derived from the System Configuration Language (SCL) files and displayed as arrows/edges between nodes (devices) in the diagram

  • Hovering over nodes and edges provides extended information via tooltips

  • Detailed GOOSE data can be viewed, both data and communication status information

  • GOOSE/R-GOOSE traffic monitoring is performed via connection to an Ethernet trunk port on a network switch

  • Multiple Ethernet adapters supported

  • “Focus” mode allows the engineer to isolate messaging related to a specific device to reduce the troubleshooting effort

  • Runs on any currently supported Microsoft operating systems
