Track Boarding

The core of our boarding experience is our unique grass free track system, created over 15 acres, extending a full 2.45 km.

The track system liberates horses from the constraints of traditional indoor boarding, fostering optimal physical and mental well-being through 24/7 natural, unrestricted movement in a herd environment.

Our horses have constant access to tested, low-NSC grass hay strategically placed along the track to stimulate continuous movement and natural foraging behavior. We use a mix of knot free nets, Optimisers, Haysavers, bins, and loose hay. Every day, we check our hay stations, remove any wet hay and top up with small squares. In the case of very cold or wet weather, we will fill nets inside the shelters, so horses do not have to choose between being out if the elements and food.

Our track uses the natural Caledon sandy soil and is maintained daily, with regular manure removal and harrowing, ensuring healthy conditions and minimizing grass overgrowth.

We have 5 shelters spread over the track, that are bedded with saw dust and cleaned every other day. Various parts of the track have mature trees, providing wind breaks and shade.

Q&A

Track systems are often created by a need for a grass free environment to support metabolic horses or those prone to laminitis, so they are not confined to a small sand paddock for life. The main drive behind using a track however, is to provide more movement and mimic as best as possible the natural foraging behavior of a horse. They can also be a fantastic solution on smaller acreage where large paddocks are not an option.
